Vote YES to protect our families from gang violence, drug dealers & juvenile crime.

“As Mayor, I have an obligation to protect the safety and well-being of every family in my community. The County Judge and Commissioners wisely listened to city leaders and police chiefs across Kaufman County when they developed this comprehensive plan for a Juvenile Detention Center. I urge everyone to join me and my family in voting Yes on May 5 to make our neighborhoods safer and help us better fight drug and gang-related crime while providing effective and compassionate programs for youth that need better direction.”

Forney Mayor Jason Roberson

Safeguard our families & children.

Kaufman County is one of the fastest growing counties in Texas. With this growth, we are seeing a dangerous increase in violent juvenile crime, gang activity, and drug trafficking. Much of this crime is moving in from cities in Dallas County. The Juvenile Detention Center, if approved by voters, will help law enforcement officers take violent and dangerous youth out of our neighborhoods and provide them the opportunity to rehabilitate.

Keep violent offenders off the streets.

Most cities in Texas are experiencing various levels of juvenile crime. But, as Judge Joseph Russell said in a recent interview – “The juvenile crime rate is going up with the population growth, but at the same time it’s also the seriousness of these charges,” said (Judge) Russell. “We got aggravated robberies, aggravated assaults, we got a lot of things that are involving firearms.” A new Juvenile Detention Center will provide a place to hold juveniles charged with these serious crimes and keep them away from our schools and neighborhoods.

Fight drug & gang-related crime.

As crime from Dallas County moves into the surrounding communities, Kaufman County is feeling the adverse effects, especially when it comes to gang violence. A Juvenile Detention Center will help reduce gang activity that includes new recruitment, robberies, assault and drug dealing – and provide law enforcement with programs that reduce such dangerous organized crime from spreading.

Rehabilitate, educate & redirect teens at risk.

For juveniles held in the new detention center, academic, rehabilitation, reform, and education programs will help these at-risk minors get back on track and prepared for adulthood. This compassionate approach for assisting troubled teens that want to turn their lives around has been proven effective in communities across Texas.

Safeguard Kaufman County tax dollars.

The Juvenile Detention Center will carry a price tag of approximately $40 million. If approved by voters, the cost to the average homeowner will only be around $2 a month. The savings for law enforcement organizations could be worth millions of dollars over the next decade as police officers and deputies would no longer need to transport arrested juveniles to facilities as far away as West Texas. This would free up revenue to fund programs that crack down on gang violence, drug dealers, and violent juvenile crime.
